SEO Tips for creating Websites

Think of users. If users enjoy your site, search engine will like it.

Page speed is important factor too in SEO rank.

Have a good domain name.

Use good url for your pages.

Write unique and easy to understand content

 Have a unique, keyword focused Title tag on every page of your site.

Keep adding new content and updating existing content.  If your content is stale, your web page will lose ranking.

If you use images - ensure that browser is not reducing their size.  Example if you have image of width = 5000 pixel and in browser you are showing 200 pixel - browser is actually downloading large image and then reducing the size.  It is not good for SEO.

Use keyword rich caption with image.

If you have video on webpage, Surround video  with keyword rich text. The search engines look at surrounding content to determine what it contains.

As appropriate have quality images in pages.

Use the words "photo", “image” , "Wallpaper", “picture” or appropriate word in your  ALT descriptions and captions. A lot of searches are for a keyword plus one of those words will improve SEO.

Enable “Enhanced image search” in your Google Webmaster Central account

Add keywords and phrases not only in text but try to have them in domain name, url, title, text, alt attributes of images.

In case you need to have  the name of your company/brand/domain in it, put it at the end.

Build network of backlink that point to your pages.

Text around link should be related to link.

Not only link should point to your home page , but also to child pages.

Not only you should have backlinks to various pages, backlink should have keyword that your page is targetiing.

Links from .edu domains get best weigtage. 

The newer links have weightage over old links.  So if you are doing link exchange do it with new one. You can check the cache date of the page where your link will be located in Google. Search for “cache:LINKURL” where you substitute “LINKURL” for the page that is giving you link. The newer the cache date the better. If the page isn’t there or the cache date is more than an month old, the page link isn’t worth much.

While writing content focus on search phrase e.g. Our resturant provide quality food is not good for SEO.  Apple pie resturant in San Francisco provide quality food is better for SEO.

Ensure or are not treated as two different domain.  Use redirection to point 1 to other. Choose 1 from start.

Do not use link such as or default.aspx.  Instead use

If possible - avoid frames, Iframes.

Number of links matter. But quality of those link matters most. Try to get links from high quality domain and pages. 

Links should be from similar domain and pages.  If you have a travel site and link is coming from finance site - it won't be useful.  If too many of bad links are there - your site might get penalized.

Links should look natural.  For example if you get link "best SEO guide".

If you are on a shared server (e.g. Shared Hosting), do a blacklist check to be sure you’re not on a proxy with a spammer or banned site. Their negative ranking could affect your own rankings.

If you do private registration of domain, search engine may not like it.  (Most of spammer do private registration too)

Create a sitemap

Create a video sitemap list it in your Google Webmaster Central account

Use Google Webmasters and Google Anaytics. Analyze the performance and take corrective action.
